Puerto Rican DancesDance is very important to the people of Puerto Rico. For centuries, the people have been dancing whether on the coast or up in the mountains. There are four main styles danced on the island. Each corresponds to a specific style of music created and/or played in Puerto Rico.

Dancing in the Street
The video of Bomba dancing above is from a more trained performance that focuses on the dance and shows the traditional dress. However, more informal performances of Bomba can be seen on the streets of Puerto Rico. These performances better demonstrate the dialog between the drummers and the dancer as well as show the freestyle abilities of the dance rather than a choreographed one.
